GGN Certification

Found in stores on fruit and vegetables, farmed seafood, flowers, and plants, the GGN label offers consumers a quick, consistent way to recognize products that align with their values on the topics of social and environmental responsibility and animal welfare. Built on a foundation of robust international GLOBALG.A.P. standards for responsible farming practices, the label also grants valuable transparency via the 13-digit tracking codes found on product packaging, enabling shoppers to trace products via the GGN label portal.

What is the GGN Label?

The ASC farm standards were developed by more than 2,000 stakeholders globally. The standard development process adheres to ISEAL’s Code of Good Practice for Setting Social and Environmental Standards. The ASC standards focus on both the environmental and social impact of farming.

Certified

All products with the GGN label originate from a farm whose production process has been independently certified according to international GLOBALG.A.P. standards for responsible farming practices.

Responsible

The standards behind the GGN label cover all major aspects of responsible farming such as food safety, environmental protection, animal welfare, workers’ well-being, and supply chain transparency.

Transparency

The GGN label works with unique identifiers to create a transparent system that builds trust and promotes the connection between producers and consumers.

How does the GGN label work?

The GNN portal helps consumers discover the roots of their products whilst showcasing the businesses who practice and support responsible farming.

  1. Unique 13-digit GGNs are linked to producers with GLOBALG.A.P. certification.
  2. GGNs are printed onto the tags or packaging of products with the GGN label.
  3. GGNs can be entered into the search system on the GGN label portal to find a farm profile for the producer.

When products are sourced from a pool of certified farms, the 13-digit Chain of Custody (CoC) Number is used. This code is linked to another supply chain member – the trader, processor, or packer – and a profile for the business can also be found on the portal for transparency on the farms they source from.

What is the GGN Label?

The GGN label is a mark of trust and transparency in a complex global food market.

Retailers, food service providers, and brand owners benefit by offering customers clear insight into the origin and production methods of their products. The GGN label covers three major categories—fruit and vegetables, farmed seafood, and flowers and plants—under one unified, consumer-friendly label.

Consumers, in turn, can easily identify products that align with their values around environmental and social responsibility, and animal welfare. By visiting the GGN label portal, they can trace products back to certified farms and support businesses committed to responsible farming.
